Fandom Snowflake Challenge #14
Jan. 27th, 2026 08:08 amChallenge #14
In your own space, create a promo and/or rec list for someone new to a fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it and include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
So I'm going to cheat a little on this and basically just post the Sense8 pimp I did for
smallfandomfest since it already sums up what I would say about it and doesn't really contain spoilers etc.
Would you believe a show that had enough of a fanbase to successfully bully Netflix into submission after a premature cancellation would have fewer than 2,000 fics on AO3 in the year of our lord 2026? It's true!
Sense8 (2015-2018), the sci-fi (ish) masterpiece of human experience by the Wachowski sisters (The Matrix) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) was cancelled after two seasons because Netflix hates joy and queer people. But fans rallied and got them to bend the knee, bringing us closure for our beloved cluster. And still the fandom is sooo small y'all.
So what's in it for you?
Extreme found family, LGBTQ representation for miles, an international cast and crew filming on location all around the world bringing some of the most stunning shots on television, awesome fight scenes, a creepy villain, Doctor Who's very own Martha Jones, Sayid from Lost being super cryptic, psychic orgies, melodramatic actors, safe cracking, a Bollywood dance number, hacking, DJing, an unfortunate amount of copaganda which we choose to overlook, Jean-Claude Van Damme-aganda which we embrace, a dog (doesn't die), friendship and loyalty and romance and LOVE. This bad boy can fit so much love in it.
If you've ever felt like you didn't belong, this show is for you. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll sing along to karaoke. Give it a try, and I promise by the time you get through episode four you'll be as shocked as I am that Sense8 doesn't have a million fics. You can find it on Netflix or the seven seas, and when you do, come squeal at me about it. The brain rot is real and it will get you too.

Date: 2026-01-27 09:19 pm (UTC)Smallfandomfest is just about over for this round (1/31) but it starts up again in May. You can do 500 words for fics, 8-10 icons, and 1 large or 2-3 smaller pieces for art.

Date: 2026-01-28 12:43 am (UTC)Laughed out loud for how true this is.
(I suggested a rewatch at home tonight and apparantly, Mr DD has been watching Sense8 without me! Like, within the last few months! I am appalled!)

Date: 2026-01-28 09:05 am (UTC)It's still on the list! But as with so many other shows, sometimes I do run into a wall when I ~like it too much~ bc Brain.

Date: 2026-01-28 12:39 pm (UTC)Yeah I get that. I was reading The Night Circus with my sister recently and she loved it so much she didn't want it to end so the last two chapters took as long as the rest of the book to finish. Sometimes your brain just won't let you do the thing.
Also, I like your Luther icon. :)

Date: 2026-01-28 03:35 pm (UTC)I stalled out after S1 when I first tried to watch it, but everything I've seen in your posts is making me really hyped to go back and pick it up again properly. So thanks for this! :D
